David Long
David Long
David Long is a visual artist working primarily in public application. He sees art as fun and exciting, but more critically as a device to explore what is possible and to spark positive change.
David has a background in graffiti art, which still influences much of his work. He primarily uses spray paint and likes to play with text - in styles rooted in both abstract lettering and in typography- as a means to spread information. A big part of his interest, focus and intention with public art is to amplify community voices and to empower the unheard.
He joined the Tacoma Murals Project in 2011, has worked on murals for the city and for Spaceworks. Also in 2011, he joined Fab-5, a Tacoma-based arts education program, as an art instructor and mentor. He currently does freelance mural work and design, and is the art director at the Brain Network, an organization for brain injury survivors, their supporters, medical professionals and other non-profit professionals.
