Jorge Mota
Jorge Mota
Jorge Mota is a local artist who has dedicated his life to using art to promote inclusivity. In 2000 his family came from mexico in search of a better life. Art was an important part of his home growing up. He fondly recalls his father drawing Halloween decorations when they could not afford any. In the early 2000s, he honed his skills airbrushing and painting he dreamed of one day becoming a full-time artist. However, the economic collapse of 2007 steered him to become a tattoo artist in order to support his family. Despite the economic difficulties and the struggles of migrant life as well as recent covid pandemic, Mota has persevered. Since 2017 he’s re-emerged a sharper artist. He now has a studio/ tattoo shop in the heart of Tacoma. He believes art has the power of universal communication. His paintings are centered around celebrating cultural representation highlighting both the struggles and the beauty of migrant life. Jorge’s parents instilled hard working values and appreciation for life experiences. Those values carry over to his art and push him to be a better artist. He has always been fond of Tacoma, the city, the people, the art. He feels that Tacoma has a lot to offer and wants to help develop and bring together the art community.
