Kala Escobar
Kala Escobar
I launched Kala Escobar Design in 2018 as a vehicle to pursue my desire to create art full time. I am primarily a painter, and I work mostly in acrylic, but my art practice is fairly eclectic. I prefer painting on stones to painting on canvas, and you are as likely to find me sculpting a mushroom out of epoxy clay or bent over my sewing machine as you are to find me at an easel. As a visual artist, I love when I come upon a new mural or sculpture as I am moving around Tacoma, and I feel that public art has the ability to make neighborhoods more vibrant and communities more connected. I am hugely inspired by nature and by the special environment of Puget Sound, and I love to incorporate those natural themes into my work. I am comfortable working with design parameters set by a client, as I do lots of commissioned paintings. I have been hoping for the opportunity to translate more of my work into mural form, and I am excited by the opportunity to put more of my art out into the world and to help the City of Tacoma turn eyesores into assets.
